| Abstract | This article shows the information on the year 2024 demonstrated a fascinating divergence between broader macroeconomic fundamentals and high-performing equity markets. Despite the restrictive central bank policies and widespread political elections affecting over half the global population, the world economy achieved an estimated real GDP growth of roughly 3.1% to 3.2%. Inflation continued its downward normalization toward central bank targets, prompting pivotal interest rate cuts led by the U.S. Federal Reserve. Share markets responded with robust double-digit gains, heavily propelled by mega-cap technology and advancements in artificial intelligence infrastructure buildouts. At the same time, emerging capital markets, most notably India, saw unprecedented domestic retail participation through systematic investment plans (SIPs). This surge in retail interest played a crucial role in offsetting heavy foreign institutional outflows, creating a unique dynamic in the market. The influx of domestic investors helped stabilize the market amid global uncertainties, reflecting a growing trust in local economic prospects. Additionally, the consolidation within sectors became apparent, emphasizing the influence and concentration of certain high-performing industries. This abstract synthesizes the primary economic drivers and share market components of 2024, highlighting significant policy shifts, the retailization of equity investments, and the inherent risks that come with sector concentration in this evolving landscape. |
