Abstract Experiential learning provides meaningful real-life experiences that support students’ cognitive skills in Araling Panlipunan. This study examined the relationship between experiential learning strategies and students’ cognitive skills in the South Bukidnon District for School Year 2026–2027. Specifically, it assessed teachers’ use of role-playing and simulations, community-based learning, reflective activities, and problem-based learning, and students’ cognitive skills in analysis, evaluation, and problem-based reasoning. The study involved 150 Araling Panlipunan teachers and 300 corresponding junior high school students selected through two-stage sampling: purposive sampling for teachers and simple random sampling for students. Using a descriptive correlational design, validated researcher-made questionnaires were employed. Mean and standard deviation described the levels of experiential learning strategies and students’ cognitive skills, while Pearson Product-Moment Correlation Coefficient tested their relationship. Multiple linear regression determined whether experiential learning strategies significantly predicted students’ cognitive skills.
The findings showed that experiential learning strategies were implemented at a very high level, with community-based learning obtaining the highest mean and role-playing and simulations the lowest. Likewise, students’ cognitive skills were at a high level, with problem-based reasoning emerging as the highest dimension and evaluation as the lowest. Significant positive relationships were found between experiential learning strategies and students’ cognitive skills. Multiple linear regression also showed that experiential learning strategies significantly predicted students’ cognitive skills, with problem-based learning emerging as the strongest predictor. The study concludes that experiential learning is meaningfully associated with students’ cognitive development in Araling Panlipunan. It recommends strengthening active learning experiences and students’ ability to assess issues critically.
