Emerging Workforce Skills in the Era of Artificial Intelligence: Perspectives for Higher Education

Abstract The rapid advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AI) is significantly transforming modern workplaces and redefining workforce skill requirements. The increasing adoption of automation, data analytics, and intelligent systems across industries has shifted the demand from routine tasks to advanced technical, cognitive, and interpersonal skills. Employees are now expected to possess digital literacy, analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and adaptability to effectively function in AI-driven work environments.

These developments have important implications for higher education institutions, which are responsible for preparing students for future careers. Universities and colleges need to adapt their curricula and teaching approaches to incorporate AI-related competencies and digital skills. Aligning educational programs with emerging industry requirements is essential for developing graduates who are capable of thriving in technology-oriented workplaces.

The present study examines the transformation of workforce skill requirements in the era of artificial intelligence, identifies key skills required for AI-driven workplaces, and analyses the challenges faced by higher education institutions in integrating AI-related skills into curriculum and pedagogy. The study is conceptual in nature and is based on secondary sources.
