Recruitment and Selection: Exploring Their Relationship with Organizational Performance

Abstract | Recruitment is a core function of the Human Resources department, serving as the first step in building a competitive workforce and creating a strategic advantage for organizations. This study employed a quantitative research design, using a questionnaire distributed among employees of telecommunication companies in Erbil, Kurdistan. The primary objective was to examine recruitment and selection procedures in organizations, identify the methodologies commonly applied, and evaluate the influence of qualifications and certifications on recruitment outcomes. In addition, the study explored the role of criteria such as gender, race, and culture in shaping recruitment and selection practices. A total population of approximately 220 employees was considered. From this, 80 questionnaires were distributed, of which 69 were returned. After screening, 60 were deemed valid and used for analysis, giving a 100% usable response rate. Data were analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 23, and descriptive statistics were applied to interpret the findings. Results showed that race and gender did not influence internal promotion within the studied telecommunication companies, providing an answer to the first research question. For the second research question, the findings revealed that most participants viewed the selection methods employed—including application forms, assessment centers, psychometric tests, interviews, CV evaluations, references, and group interviews—as important components of the selection process. |
