| Abstract | This study reports the successful synthesis of Au@Pd bipyramidal core-shell nanoparticles with varying Pd shell thicknesses using a seed-mediated chemical growth method. The nanoparticles exhibit 5-fold twins with stacking faults, inducing tensile strain in the Pd shells, which decreases as shell thickness increases. Microstrain arising from defects further influences structural properties. The ultrathin Pd-shell nanoparticles demonstrate exceptional catalytic performance, achieving mass and specific activities 23.26 and 10 times higher than commercial Pd/C, respectively, along with superior durability in ethanol oxidation reactions (EOR). The findings highlight the importance of shell thickness tuning for designing highly efficient core-shell catalysts for fuel cell applications. |
